Museum

The Twentynine Palms Historical Society is home to a functioning library and research facility. Our library houses regional history, original photographs, and desert themed literature from around the Twentynine Palms area. The society is a treasure trove for researchers, students, and genealogists.

Admission is always free (Donations are accepted). Feel free to browse the museum on your own. Docents are also always available for additional information and museum tours.

Museum and Gift Shop Open Hours
Wed-Sun: 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m

Summer Hours (June, July, August): Fri-Sun, 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Research Library and Archives are open to the public Wednesday mornings from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. No appointment necessary.

We encourage the use of our Research Library and Archives by anyone interested in the Twentynine Palms area.

Our collection includes:

  • A collection of over 500 books and many photographs related to our area
  • Nearly every edition of the Desert Trail newspaper (April 18, 1935 to present)
  • All issues of the Out Post (July 14, 1932 – 26 May 1934
  • Assorted issues of the 29 Palms News (May 5, 1960 – October 14, 1976
  • Twentynine Palms High School Annuals
  • All issues of the original Desert Magazine plus an index
  • People vertical files – biographies, family histories, newspaper clippings, etc.
  • Numerous local organizational records and publications
  • Oral History Interviews
